Rejection of UK Officials’ Allegations Against Iran
WANA (May 07) – Alireza Yousefi, Assistant to the Foreign Minister and Director General for Western Europe at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has firmly rejected recent allegations made by the UK Home Office and several members of the British Parliament against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Yousefi dismissed these allegations, which followed the suspicious arrest of several Iranian nationals, calling them completely unfounded. He stressed that the police statements and remarks made in the UK Parliament, in connection with the questionable detention of Iranian citizens, reflect a disregard for fundamental legal and human rights principles.
He added that accusing Iran while simultaneously arresting several of its nationals raises serious concerns about political motivations behind these detentions. The repeated habit of some British politicians and officials to make baseless and unsubstantiated claims against Iran, he warned, undoubtedly harms bilateral relations and deepens the historic distrust and suspicion Iranians hold toward the UK government—responsibility for which lies with Britain.
Yousefi further warned of the negative consequences stemming from the unfounded campaign of accusations against Iran. He called for the immediate and accurate disclosure of the reasons for the arrests and for consular access to be granted to the detainees. He also emphasized the necessity of ensuring fair legal procedures in their cases.

In contrast, Dan Jarvis, UK Minister of State for Security, speaking in the House of Commons, referred to the recent arrest of several Iranian nationals during a counter-terrorism operation. He reiterated accusations regarding Iran as a “security threat,” claiming Tehran had been behind several “dangerous plots” on British soil in recent years.
Jarvis stated on Tuesday that the May 3rd operation involved two separate cases, with eight individuals arrested across the country. He described it as one of the “largest counter-terrorism actions in recent years,” claiming that five Iranian nationals were detained on suspicion of planning terrorist acts, while three others were arrested under the UK’s National Security Act.
